Glass Industry Offers Added Value
This is our last Gl@zine before next week's Glass Processing & Technology Show, which takes place at Birmingham's NEC from next Tuesday, from 17th - 19th May. This show is again well timed: we have early reports of BFRC window ratings coming in, which are driven more by the glass industry than the framing industry, and are another example of glass technology taking the initiative around building regs.

The glass market is definitely still as hot, if not hotter than two years ago, but while GP&T looks as impressive as its first outing in 2003, on closer inspection it appears a bit thin. Having only one year to prove itself - with Vitrum 2003 rescheduling from its usual Autumn date to June, but now back in its more usual September slot - GP&T only had one shot at establishing itself as a truly international glass show. Judging by the line up at this year's show, GP&T has failed in its bid to become a serious contender against Vitrum or Glasstec, but is nonetheless an impressive display of the UK glass and glazing industry.

GP&T's launch offering in 2003 promised architects, specifiers and interior designers, but the reality was that the majority of visitors came from the glass processing and distribution sectors. Perhaps as a result of this, there are more machinery companies present, and some of the glass and glazing firms may have re-adjusted their presentation to appeal not to the architect but to their trade customers. Given the eclectic mix of exhibitors, it can't help but be an interesting show, whoever turns up!

Our Preview of the Glass Processing & Technology show is here.

Global Support

Meanwhile, Masterframe announces that its sliding sash is the first to be rated under the news BFRC system, achieving a 'D' on its existing window and a 'C' on a new window profile system which the company has developed.
