MAKING
USE OF THE MARKETING MIX
The internet - and of course its undisputed 'killer
application' email - is here to stay as a powerful means of marketing and
communication. Since the (welcome) collapse of the 'dot.com boom' most people
have thankfully stopped waffling about how the internet is going to change
this or replace that.
Today's businesses recognise that they have a mix of marketing methods to
choose from and anyone not using all of them is probably missing out. Using
several methods in tandem can often create a '2+2=5' scenario - for example,
the recent co-operation between The Gl@zine and Glassex, the exhibition,
which benefitted both parties and provided excellent up to the minute information
which was invaluable to both readers and visitors alike.
Of course, print media is still a favoured option for many, despite its
high production costs and its increasing burden on the planet's dwindling
natural resources. But the internet - or Ezines for that matter - will never
'replace' magazines, just provide an alternative route to market.
ANSWER
ANYONE?
Spotted in today's MailMetro is a letter from Londoner Andy
Beer which says:
'I have just watched some bottle banks being emptied into a big truck.
Why is it, when we are asked to separate our used glass into different
colours, they just empty all the bins into the same hole?

One
of the reasons for this week's theme being so 'internet based' is the
flurry of major companies who have launched redesigned websites in the
last few days, culminating in yesterday's launch of the new Pilkington
website, one the most ambitious internet projects we have seen. Other
recently redesigned websites include Deceuninck and Heywood Williams,
Sparks Direct, IMI (Premier Profile's parent company), Reddiglaze, Maco
and Stuga. Serious companies are still taking the internet very seriously.
It
may not have escaped your attention that several of those companies I mentioned
above are also advertisers on The Gl@zine, which suggests that they also
see the value in Email Marketing through a professional Ezine dedicated
to their market. Indeed, it gives me great pleasure to see how many of our
advertisers have risen to the challenge of web-based advertising in creating
interesting and diverting animated banners and Flash 'movies'.
