Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all
Yesterday's 'We got 'im' news gave share prices a lift, as investors speculated on improved security in the region. However, this soon evaporated as another series of terrorist attacks suggested that the arrest of the 'Ace of Spades' has made little or no difference, or indeed might have actually made things worse. Globalisation is not all bad news: it has led to greater co-operation in the realms of science, medicine and technology. It is also at the heart of what makes the world wide web such a hugely powerful, but potentially dangerous phenomenon. Like all powerful tools - the gun, fire etc - it has to be treated with caution. Which brings me to my final point, which is to respond to a number of queries I have received about the recent anti-SPAM laws.
Deceuninck Advert

HerMaj and Jonny W I will deal with this subject in a bit more depth in the next issue, but the basic flaw with any laws governing the internet is that however many countries in the world pass the same laws, there will always be one 'flag of convenience' type country who will continue to flood the world with unwanted email garbage. Rather than clamour for laws, we should continue to put pressure on internet service providers, such as BT, AOL etc, to spend more money trying to fix it from their end.

This is our last Gl@zine until January 6th, so I will sign off this week by wishing you a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Please view our Christmas card here.

Palmer: 'The Market for Private Sector Home Improvements to 2007'
The total British market for windows, external doors and conservatories in the home improvements sector is now £4.1 billion at installed values, in the base year of 2002. Window replacement of replacements is increasing (now 20% of all replacements are replacing windows that have already been replaced.) Nonetheless, the conservatory market is where the growth has been in recent years. Palmer suggests that traditional extensions by builders - requiring planning permission and more stringent building regulation approval - are being supplanted by conservatories.
