English Heritage in race against time to save rare 500 year old glass
English Heritage, with a group of local archaeologists, is investigating a secret site on which Warwickshire rabbits have been busy over the summer. The rabbits' burrowing into a grass hump which was the platform on which a house stood, has dug up a large quantity of rare medieval glass thought to have been the remains of a very grand, highly decorated window of a substantial 14th century manor house.

Big on Promises but can Brown Deliver?
The Construction Products Association welcomed the increased capital spending on infrastructure and the built environment in the Government's latest Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR). 
Commenting on the Chancellor's Statement, the Association's Chief Executive, Michael Ankers said:  'The UK is bottom of the European league when it comes to the level of investment in the infrastructure and the rest of the built environment.'

Laird posts first half loss of £60m
The Laird Group has reported its first half results for 2002, which accumulate to losses of some £60m. However, this is mainly as a result of the sale of Fullarton Computer Industries at a loss of some £55m, following the high tech crash in the US. Laird Security Systems (Cego Frameware, ERA, EWS, Feneseal, JK Furnex, Linear, Permacell Finesse and Ventrolla), has performed well, with turnover up 5% to £96.9m and operating profits up to £11.1m (2001: £10.1m) for the half year.

Pilkington Chairman addresses AGM
At the recentAnnual General Meeting of Pilkington plc, the Chairman, Sir Nigel Rudd, made the following statement:

PPG Reports On Second Quarter
As a result of a charge for a previously announced asbestos settlement agreement, PPG Industries today reported a net loss of $345 million, or a loss per share of $2.03, for the second quarter. Excluding the $495 million aftertax charge, net income was $150 million or 89 cents a share. Sales were $2.13 billion.
