One dram at a time

All construction businesses should follow the lead set by the Scottish whisky industry, by pulling together to minimise impact on the environment, claims Simon de Grey from training company Pivotal Performance.

The industry announced this week it will cut the use of fossil fuels by 80% over the next 40 years.

That will be the equivalent of taking 235,000 cars off the road by 2050.

“This is a stunning commitment from an industry that wasn’t even under significant pressure to go green,” said Simon. “It has taken two years to put together a professional environmental management system for the whole industry.

“The people leading the Scotch whisky industry should feel very proud of themselves. Every business could do it if they really wanted to; to change an entire industry like this is very difficult.”

He added: “I hope this inspires other industry leaders to do the same.”

Companies in the Scotch whisky industry have also agreed to reduce packaging and improve sustainability of resources used.
