Let there be Light with AGC's New Glassiled
AGC
Flat Glass Europe has combined glass and light
in its new Glassiled - a laminated glass with embedded LEDs (light emitting
diodes). Specially designed for use in building façades and interior
decoration, Glassiled features the durability of laminated safety glass
plus the intense light and colour of LED technology. AGC's latest innovation
has already won the Medaille d'Or at the Design Trophies in the 'Floor,
Wall and Ceiling Coverings' category in November at Batimat, Paris - the
world's largest construction show.
In Glassiled, tiny LEDs are sandwiched between two sheets of glass with
no visible wires and are powered through an invisible conductive coating.
The colour, number of LEDs and the cover and base glasses used can be
varied, allowing the product to be personalised to create unique designs
for the home, office or commercial buildings.
There is a choice of monocolour LEDs, offering red, green, blue, warm
white and cool white, or RGB LEDs, for freely changing colours. A versatile
'plug and play' product, Glassiled comes complete with all the necessary
power supplies and controls and is designed for extra long life with no
sensitivity to on-off cycling or vibrations.
Light is a major source of inspiration for architects and interior designers
and Glassiled offers virtually unlimited creative potential for multiple
applications, from commercial partitioning systems to shelves and showcases
in shops or galleries where it can attractively light the items on display.
Glassiled adds that special touch to attract customers' attention to a
key product or service. It also reduces the requirement for additional
lighting and therefore offers the direct advantage of saving space on
sales floors. When used in a façade (houses, industrial sites and
office/apartment buildings) Glassiled is the perfect way to combine the
potential of LEDs with the technical specifications and aesthetics of
glass. It offers a highly personalised way to use light, during the day
and at night.
In addition, with a guaranteed lifetime of 50,000 hours, Glassiled offers
an energy efficient lighting solution with no need for replacement bulbs
for some 17 years - based on a use of 8 hours per day.
