OBG
has The Edge
A frameless glass partitioning system from OBG
is complementing the feeling of light and space in the offices of an award-winning
development. Rising 20 storeys from its riverside location, The Edge makes
a striking contribution to the regeneration of Manchester's Chapel Wharf
area. In addition to the contemporary workspace for commercial developer
Modus Properties on the second and third floors, the building also offers
spacious city living in 275 luxury apartments.
Rochdale-based
OBG is the North's leading independent supplier of glazed partitioning
systems, glass doors and office blinds. The company was awarded the contract
to supply glass partitioning and window blinds for The Edge by Planscape
Ltd, specialists in commercial fit-outs and space planning. OBG's competitive
pricing and reliable, quality products and services have made them Planscape's
preferred supplier on various projects over the past 15 years.
Simon Sparrow, Director of Planscape comments, Modus Properties
wanted a bright, modern feel for their new offices that would reflect
their dynamic property business. The large glazed partitions and minimalist
framework of OBG's system permits daylight to flood right through the
office suites from the riverside elevation to provide an open, airy working
environment.
OBG supplied 120 linear metres of frameless glass partitioning for a client
reception area, plus conference and marketing facilities for Modus Properties
in The Edge. The glass partitioning also incorporated 21 full height frameless
glass doors, specified to BS 5234 in accordance with requirements for
strength and robustness for full height interior glazing. The glazing
is secured with translucent silicone, which provides almost invisible
joints.
The system's ultra slimline aluminium sections feature an innovative clip-fit
design that virtually eliminates the need for any drilling or screwing
on site and enables quick and easy assembly. The framework can be powder
coated in a range of RAL and BS colours to suit interior decor. Partitioning
and screening not only divides up space, it creates a more structured
working environment and breaks down sounds and distractions. The glazed
partitioning installed at The Edge achieves a 36dB rating, which ensures
good sound insulation and privacy between general working areas and meeting
rooms.
OBG was able to meet Planscape's fit-out schedule for The Edge, supplying
the partitioning channel in the required white powder coated finish from
stock and completing the contract in just four days. Whilst on site and
as part of the same contract, OBG also supplied 25mm Venetian blinds in
a perforated white finish to the external, full height floor to ceiling
windows.
Frameless glazing is one of fastest growing areas in commercial
office installations and is ideal for dividing up office space whilst
still retaining a light and airy atmosphere, says OBG's Managing
Director, Ian Masterson. It's a key product line for OBG and supplying
The Edge demonstrates our ability to work with architects and contractors
to satisfy the demands of even the most prestigious project.
