Selecta Systems makes a Green Sweep with the Advance 70 System

With the Energy Savings Trust claiming that homes account for 27% of the UK's carbon emissions the team at Selecta is committed to an ongoing research and development programme that will ensure the Advance 70 mm system offers optimum energy efficient performance levels.

Additionally with global warming generally becoming a more serious issue for all, improved extrusion methods will be introduced by April 2008 which will be highlighted at Glassex 2008.

The Advance 70 mm system is a 5 chamber profile that provides optimum energy efficiency that will increase solar gain, reduce thermal transmission and improve air leakage.

Predominantly the focus for the company revolves around recycling in line with future government legislation that is expected to take effect by 2010.

Mark Richmond, Sales and Marketing Director comments, ‘Any material changes can seriously affect the running of the lines however Selecta is now extruding using calcium zinc which is far more beneficial for the environment.’

Furthermore with all profiles being extruded from pvc-u material it can be recycled in various applications after being reprocessed. Already the large amounts of water used during extrusion at the plant in Birmingham is filtered and recycled.

During production a certain amount of scrap material is obviously produced, primarily when commissioning a new tool. This material is not wasted but recycled.

Any material that cannot be reprocessed using in-house equipment is collected by Dekura a company that has approved recycling and waste management processing systems which fully comply with the dictates of the Environmental Protection Act.

Mark Richmond continues, ‘Energy conservation and efficiency are no longer the sole responsibilities of governments, organisations and environmentalists. Each and every one of us has a responsibility to help combat the effects of global warming and climate change.

‘Whilst environmentalists and scientists have been predicting harmful changes to weather patterns for years, the effects are now more than evident. We consider that it is imperative for manufacturers to fully comprehend how they can reduce their carbon footprint and implement 'green' procedures that will help to combat the effects of global warming.’

Mark Richmond concludes, ‘The A rating status relating to the Advance 70 mm system was the first step for Selecta and we intend to monitor, adapt and implement new measures in accordance with guidelines to ensure we provide only best quality products to the market.’
