Composite Doors: Performance is the Key

Dear Richard,

Dave Mullholland (Don't close the door on profit or reputation, Gl@zine April 22) says that the composite door market represents a fantastic opportunity for fabricators and installers, and I agree with him.

But too many composite doors on the market are exactly the same. How are installers supposed to make money when they compete against each other with virtually the same door?

Like Mr Mullholland, we believe that doors should be built to perform. And although he advocates a double rebated door we feel that a single rebate offers greater aesthetic benefits. At 50mm not only does the Rockdoor look like a traditional timber door, it also sits flush with the frame, an important sales benefit. Using a unique and exclusive double weather seal means that Rockdoor is also thermally efficient. And it delivers the composite promise of strength and security, recently being awarded Secured by Design accreditation.

However, I believe the key factor as to whether a door will perform as long as the guarantee which backs it is the material it is made from. GRP has a history of problems, and the commodity slabs are a long way from their Far Eastern home if they fail, whereas PVC-U is proven technology and close to home. And homeowners know PVC-U performs.

It is vital that installers look at all the technical aspects and benefits of one composite door against another so they can make an informed choice and offer a door which lasts.
That's the way to help the market grow.

Yours Sincerely

Mark Simm
