Aztec - Less Effort for a Better Result

With the growth towards glass in conservatory roofs, Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems has engineered what it claims is the simplest yet most effective means of glazing the roof, enabling potentially just one man to construct the whole roof.

The company has examined the challenges faced on site, of manoeuvring and handling an inflexible, fragile material, and designed a simple solution that eliminates all the cost and hazard issues inherent with conventional systems.

The solution uses just two core components: a twin bead and panel support trim, which combine to enable each panel of the roof to be glazed individually. Thus, one man can construct the whole roof. The risk of the glazing being damaged or broken, and therefore requiring replacement, is virtually removed. The time and effort positioning two sheets of glazing at the same time is also eliminated. Safety is improved for the installer, and security for the householder.

Under the Aztec system, the support trim locates into a specially designed groove in the ring beam to ensure the glazing is fixed securely in place without risk of slippage, and making it difficult to remove glazing illicitly. The twin glazing beads accommodate variations in thermal expansion from hot days better than a traditional single bead, and so do not 'pop out' when exposed to high summer temperatures and consequently loosen the glazing and the increase the potential for it to slip, or blow off in high winds.

Additionally, the combination gives a neat and aesthetic external finish.

Elaborates Colin Bennett, Aztec Sales Director, ‘The growth in use of glass to roof conservatories is highlighting one of the biggest challenges fitters face: manoeuvring glazing into place and fixing it efficiently and safely! There are the physical issues of raising above head height and positioning a comparatively fragile but weighty sheet of material that can be easily chipped or broken, and the safety considerations should it fracture or break. Polycarbonate has similar issues of manoeuvrability at height.

‘Then there are the cost implications - the obvious replacement of broken glazing, but what about the hidden cost of a fitter being off work for a long time, or claiming damages, because he has cut himself badly on broken glass?. And the issues are compounded by the way most roof systems are designed, using one bead to secure abutting sheets of glazing into position, meaning at least two men are needed to glaze the roof.

‘Our system is engineered to overcome those everyday issues that frustrate and cost. The two simple elements of split glazing beads and a panel support trim that combines end closer and ring beam infill means that each sheet of glazing can be positioned more accurately, and secured individually, therefore accelerating the installation process- and make it safer- as fitters are not trying to align and hold into place two pieces of glazing at once, and reach across the glazing to fit the bead. Each bead and panel support trim simply push-fits into place to secure the glazing and give a weathertight seal- regardless of climatic conditions!’
