AAMA Updates Document Addressing Rotary Operators in Window Applications

AAMA 901-07, a voluntary specification covering rotary operators in window applications, has been released by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA). According to Ken Brenden, AAMA technical standards manager, the revamped seven-page document, titled Voluntary Specifications for Rotary Operators in Window Applications and first published in 1996, includes several updates.

The specifications and methods of test covered in AAMA 901-07 include procedures, materials and performance criteria for determining the durability of gear type rotary operating devices used for opening and closing casement, awning, jalousie and other similar types of windows, per Brenden.

'In addition to various editorial changes, definitions were clarified within the document, including dwell time as referenced in ASTM E 405. The most significant change was the update of Tables 1, 2 and 3 to be consistent with designations as stated in AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S. 2/A440-05,' according to Brenden. In addition, the referenced standards were also updated.

The Voluntary Specifications for Rotary Operators in Window Applications is available through download, CD or paper copy at a cost of $20.00 for non-members and $10.00 for members.
