First NVQ in Roofline Proves Popular with GAP Customers

The industry's first specifically designed professional roofline qualification has proved popular. Only four weeks after it was launched in April by Wigan and Leigh College with GAP, 42 of its customers have enrolled on the NVQ Level 2 in Special Installation of Roofline Systems course. The first candidates are well on their way to gaining the qualification.

To gain the qualification candidates are attending training sessions at GAP's dedicated Training Centre in Blackburn. Their skills are also assessed by the college while they are working on site for their employer. Having developed the course in association with GAP several months ago, Neil Whitfield, Head of On Site Assessment and Training at Wigan and Leigh College comments: ‘The course is proving a tremendous success with candidates providing work based evidence to achieve the qualification.’

Karl Owen, Group Training Manager at GAP says the course offers a great opportunity to installers. ‘Gaining a professional qualification is a great way for our customers to show homeowners they have the necessary skills and can work to the highest standards. GAP's training facilities are ideal for installers to extend their skills and knowledge base.’

GAP's Joint Managing Director Charles Greensmith adds ‘It's encouraging see cellular foam manufacturers 'teaming up' with Wigan and Leigh College on a course which was first developed in association with GAP several months ago. It's great to see some of the more established companies follow stockist initiatives like ours and take training seriously in a difficult time for the market. The more we support and invest in our customers the more we will benefit as an industry. GAP takes training seriously; we launched our training centre last year when others were shutting their facilities. The industry's first NVQ level 2 in roofline is the first of many exciting schemes we will be launching this year in our mission to support installers.’
