Wegoma Helps Bob Back in the Frame

In what could be regarded as a highly-unusual move in a mature industry, Bob Wallis, Managing Director of Essex-based Window-Tech Trade Ltd has successfully returned to trade fabrication this year with the help of his machinery supplier Wegoma.

Persuaded by the argument and convinced it was the best direction for his business at the time, Bob ceased 17 years of successful fabrication at his 18,000 sq ft factory near Romford in April 2007 to buy in frames.

‘On paper, the idea looked great, but there were some quality issues and it didn't work out,’ explains Bob. ‘I was getting complaints and from the fitters' and customers' comments, I had obviously been making good quality windows in the first place.’

Nine months later, having sold off 80% of his fabrication machinery, Bob decided to return to production - albeit on a reduced, but streamlined scale at West Horndon. He now supplies around 350 frames per week to his loyal South East customers who stuck by him through the difficulties.

Wegoma has been a pivotal force in his return to manufacturing, including advising on and supplying machinery, installation and commissioning. Within a week, Wegoma had supplied its latest WSA 4 LVE vertical quad welder, plus WSA four and two-head welders, routers, an up-stroke saw and end milling machine to get Bob 'back in the frame'.

‘I reluctantly went back to fabricating, having learned much from the experience. But I'm so glad I did as I feel more in control and have tailored my operation to suit the market conditions,’ says Bob. ‘2008 may be a tough year, but with the support of my loyal customers and excellent team, I know it's going to work.’
