CGI's
Pyroguard Protects Jersey Tenants
Fire protection is being provided for tenants in new apartments on Jersey
by CGI's Pyroguard fire resistant
glass.
Island-based CGI stockist, Pallot Glass & Glazing, has supplied and
installed 7.2mm Pyroguard Clear glass to staircases, screens and doors
throughout Le Coie Apartments. With 96 flats in two six-storey blocks,
the new development is the second largest estate built on behalf of the
Jersey Homes Trust, a major provider of social rented housing for the
island's residents.
Le Coie offers one and two bedroom units, plus one large five-bedroom
apartment. The buildings feature a striking exterior design, with round
corner towers, and have been constructed around a main open area with
playground facilities. The specification of building materials for the
project embraces the best in environmental practice, aesthetics and safety
standards - including effective protection in the event of a fire. CGI's
Pyroguard 7.2mm Clear was specified by the architect for selected glazed
areas in accordance with current fire safety design regulations.
The 7.2mm option from the Pyroguard range has a 30-minute integrity rating,
plus the added benefit of radiant heat control. Its performance derives
from a specially formulated resin interlayer, which provides a fire stop,
sandwiched between layers of 3mm float glass. Being an unwired laminated
fire glass, CGI's Pyroguard Clear also has visual appeal without compromising
fire protection and allows the maximum ingress of light.
Pyroguard fire resistant glass has been installed by Pallot's experienced
fitting teams in areas such as communal staircases and fire doors at Le
Coie. Pallot cut the fire glass to the required sizes using stock sheets
from CGI and used an approved framing system featuring hardwood beads,
cupped and screwed to secure the glass, together with intumescent tape.
This expands in the event of a fire to seal any gaps between the glass
and framing.
Pallot Glass and Glazing has been supplying CGI's fire resistant glass
products for ten years and offers a high quality glazing service for domestic,
architectural and commercial contracts throughout Jersey. Production Director,
George Gilbertson, comments: 'Pyroguard has provided an ideal solution
for Le Coie Apartments in terms of fire performance and aesthetics. Also,
its innovative design means we can cut stock sheets to size in-house,
which enables us to offer a fast turnaround service for our customers.'
As well as being fire resistance tested to BS 476: part 22, Pyroguard
also meets EN 1364-1 and other international standards, and is classified
E30/EW30 to EN 13501-2. In addition the glass is impact safety certified
to BS6206 Class B and EN 12600 Class 2 and has been tested to meet the
recently implemented Building Regulations Document M on vision panels
in doors. For further information about CGI's comprehensive range of fire
