Kenrick
and Kaba Launch Bump and Snap Resistant Cylinder System
A
new product innovation has been unveiled by Archibald
Kenrick Ltd and Kaba. Sharing
a joint hardware manufacturing heritage of more than 300 years, the two
companies have launched Excalibur RASP, which has been designed to meet
the exacting demands of the modern marketplace.
The
patented Excalibur RASP (which stands for Resistant Against Snapping and
Picking) is a bump and snap resistant cylinder system. Independently tested
by the Master Locksmith Association for BSI, it is the first cylinder
available on the market to be kitemark approved and to have achieved full
accreditation for the stringent PAS 24 standard, including the new clause
11a that covers severe physical attack on the lock cylinder.
Excalibur RASP, which has been awarded the coveted Secured By Design accreditation
- one of the UK's most widely respected benchmarks for security, also
meets BS 3621: 2007.
Mike Hill, Kenrick's Business Development Director, comments: With
video footage and instructions on how to make and use bump keys becoming
easily available on the Internet, lock bumping and lock snapping have
become major concerns. These techniques have the potential to affect around
22 million door locks in the UK alone. A major worry that arises when
a lock has been bumped and a house burgled is that many insurance companies
refuse to pay out because there is no evidence at all of forced entry.
This breakthrough product tackles this worrying trend head on, offering
complete BSI approved Eurocylinder security and total peace of mind to
the homeowner.
The result of years of intensive research and development, Excalibur RASP
prevents a would-be burglar from 'bouncing' the pins inside the cylinder
and gaining entry into a property within seconds without damaging the
lock. The cylinder, which can also be retro-fitted, was in house tested
at Kenrick. It sustained a 14 minute attack using all the tools used for
PAS 24 as well as additional tools which are available to any burglar
but are not currently used in PAS 24 testing.
The Excalibur RASP cylinder system is also covered under Kenrick's security
guarantee. The guarantee offers the homeowner free security cover, up
to £500 towards the cost of replacing a damaged window or door and
up to £600 towards the cost of replacing stolen property for a period
of five years from the date of installation.
Kenrick is a supplier of hardware solutions for PVCu, aluminium and timber
window and door systems. The company has a proud heritage spanning more
than 200 years, having been established By Archibald Kenrick who manufactured
buckles and livery fittings. Kenrick's range of quality products includes
the Excalibur multi-point window shootbolt.
