Masterframe
makes 3 Metre Sash for £250,000 Self-Build Project
Proving that self-build is here to stay, John and Jolanta Robinson's
new build guesthouse includes 34 Masterframe
Vintage sash windows, one of which is arched, over three metres tall and
covers a three storey stairwell.

We
looked around on the market to see if there were any suitable existing
properties we could buy, explains John. But nothing came close
to what we liked or needed for a four-bed guesthouse that we could also
live in ourselves. So we decided to build one from scratch!

Work
started last April and the couple, currently living in a caravan on site,
hope to complete the house by the end of 2008. John knows a little
about DIY and does what he can himself but has employed local builders
Rowling Building Services to do the bulk of the construction and install
the windows.
We chose Masterframe's windows because the quality is excellent,
continues John.
We particularly like the period Georgian bars which replicate traditional
sash windows. We wanted PVC-U because it's durable and easy to maintain,
and timber is so much more expensive. Having said that, the exterior of
the property was important - it should be attractive as a guesthouse.
The appearance of the windows was crucial and all of them have keystone
headers. The windows were delivered directly from Masterframe and the
company was very helpful in answering all my questions on measuring and
clearances.
