Pilkington
Partners with BRE Innovation Park Visitors Centre
Pilkington has provided a range of glazing in the BRE
Innovation Park Visitors Centre at the Building Research Establishment
(BRE), the world leading construction consultancy in Watford. Pilkington
Activ, Pilkington Eclipse Advantage and Pilkington energiKare
ranges were installed in the centre.
Tim Fagg, Pilkington Project Specifications Manager, said: 'We are thrilled
to be part of such an innovative project. The opportunity to provide Pilkington
Activ, Pilkington Eclipse Advantage and Pilkington energiKare
glazing in the doors, panels, screens and entrance to the centre showcases
our diverse offering to both commercial and residential buildings.'
The Visitors Centre, part of the BRE Innovation Park, provides information
about all of the products in its park while also showcasing a range of
new designs and technologies.
Pilkington Eclipse Advantage range, in a variety of colours, has
been incorporated into the doors and side panels of the centre. The range
combines both solar control and low emissivity in one readily processed
coating making it suitable for both domestic and commercial applications.
In the fixed screen of the Visitors Centre Pilkington Activ
dual action self-cleaning glass is used in conjunction with Pilkington
Artic Blue, Pilkington Suncool, or Pilkington Activ
Neutral. These combinations mean the glass can offer self-cleaning with
solar control or low emissivity, as well as making it an ideal product
for hard to clean and large areas of glazing. Pilkington Activ Blue
is also found in the double doors in the terrace.
In the entrance to the centre Pilkington energiKare is showcased
in the doors. Pilkington energiKare is different to standard double
glazing as it works in two ways. It reduces the amount of net heat lost
through windows by up to 90 percent and it also allows more heat (energy)
from the sun in through the window. Pilkington energiKare is made
up of Pilkington K Glass, the UKs best selling low-e glass
and Pilkington Optiwhite, a special extra clear glass
which allows more solar heat in through the windows, making a home feel
warmer without the need to turn up the heating.
The Innovation Park is in the centre of the BRE headquarters. It features
a number of demonstration properties showcasing Modern Methods of Construction,
near zero-carbon homes, and more than 200 different innovative and emerging
technologies.
The Centre includes a product portal available to Park visitors. It is
a hub to improve knowledge exchange between the Innovation Park build
partners, their supply chain and wider industry. It also allows an active
link to The Knowledge Transfer Network for the Modern Built Environment
(MBE KTN).
