GGF President Meets with Deputy Governor of the Bank of England

Robert Aitken, Glass and Glazing Federation President, continued to represent industry's concerns at a recent Construction Products Association (CPA) lunch with Rachel Lomax, Deputy Governor of the Bank of England.

The small gathering of construction industry representatives were not surprised to hear that housing starts for 2008 are forecast to be the lowest since 1945.

However, the outlook for construction in other areas such as infrastructure - transport, schools (Building Schools for the Future programme) and the Olympics were still positive based on continuing public spending. Public housing while unexciting was also seen as having some support from continued state spending.

Robert took the opportunity to ensure that the Bank of England and its Policy Monitory Committee were aware of the difficulties facing our industry and the need for State incentives for energy efficient windows.
