BMF Hosts all Merchant Industry Conference to Tackle Environmental Issues

The Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) is bringing together key trade associations involved in the trade distribution of building materials to host a one-day Environment and Sustainability Conference and Exhibition. The Conference will address environmental issues affecting the whole of the merchant industry and will be held on Thursday 22nd May at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

'Builders’ merchants are finding themselves under increasing pressure to adopt environmental management systems and face up to the green challenge that is confronting the building supplies industry. Merchants are being asked more questions than ever before about their environmental credentials. This Conference is part of a package of responses BMF is making to the environmental pressures that merchants are encountering in the market place. We have introduced our Environmental Code which is being developed into an accredited and audited system and we are working with other trade bodies to tackle issues head on,' said Chris Pateman, Managing Director – BMF.

The conference will deal with the business threats and opportunities arising from customer demands and current environmental regulations considering the central government and local authority legislative agenda. The programme will give contractors’, merchants’ and manufacturers’ perspectives on implementing environmental practices and how to comply with regulations.

The Timber Trade Federation, British Woodworking Federation, Glass and Glazing Federation and Irish Hardware & Building Materials Association are amongst other trade associations that are supporting the conference and a panel session will address the various trading interests. An exhibition will feature environmental/ sustainable products by BMF supplier members.

Anyone wishing to attend should contact Christine Harding, Marketing Manager at BMF on 0207 534 7426 or email chris.harding@bmf.org.uk
