UAP Cylinder Locks Now Bump-proof as Standard

UK-based door furniture supplier UAP has announced that all door cylinders supplied by the company are now pre-treated with the anti-bumping remedy Pickbuster (‘shock absorbers for locks’) as standard, and at no extra cost to customers.

UAP Managing Director David Jennings explains, ‘As a responsible company we halted production and supply of our door cylinders as soon as we heard about lock bumping. Fortunately Pickbuster is a simple solution to the problem and we specified its application to all UAP branded cylinders from Day One.’

Incredibly, although lock bumping as a fast and easy way to enter premises without leaving any physical evidence of the break-in was known of as long ago as the 1970's, steps that could have been taken had been largely ignored by door cylinder manufacturers - presumably due to cost considerations and in the hope that the technique would not become generally known.

Word spread, however, especially since the growth of the Internet, and now bumping door locks has become rife, first in the USA, then Europe, and is now a growing phenomenon in the UK.

Opening a door literally in seconds and available for just a few dollars or Pounds each on the Internet, a set of only 10 bump keys will open 90 per cent of all modern locks anywhere.

The Pickbuster remedy, now exclusively distributed by UAP, is a non-toxic application that affects the transmission of force made through bumping so that the lock cannot be opened in this way. After treatment, normal day-to-day use of the cylinder is unaffected, keys do not need to be replaced, and a single application will give protection for the guaranteed life of the cylinder.

Pickbuster is tested and recommended by the British Institute of Certified Locksmiths.
