Launches First Mandatory Installation NVQ Programme The NVQ level 2 programme is mandatory for all BPIs, who must attend a classroom day and pass a theory exam on the new installation method. The Bygone Installation standard is taught by Chris Mayne of CJM Consultants, who worked alongside The Essential Support Team (TEST), a Glass Qualifications Authority approved centre. TEST specialises in the window industry and fenestration NVQs. Phil Thomas, founder of TEST, supported the development of the programme and is providing the on-site assessments, training and NVQ certification. Masterframe has introduced several new innovations for its sashes as part of the new programme too. Ray Rabett, Masterframe's Technical Director, explains: 'We've developed a new lug (which is being patented): a metal fixing strap that clips or screws onto the side of the window and the brickwork. Normally, installers have to screw through the window itself to fix it to the brickwork, which weakens the frame. Several BPIs have tested this innovation using the new installation process and say the sash is much easier and quicker to fit. The response to the Bygone NVQ programme has been overwhelmingly positive too.' Chris Mayne adds: 'The training provided by CJM Consultants for the Bygone Collection has been designed to ensure home improvements are in character and keeping with regional styles and local traditions. The product-specific standard method and training will deliver the required technical competencies that underpin the Bygone brand.' TEST is verifying the programme and providing funding via the Government's Train to Gain programme for NVQ training. 'The course typically takes around 3-6 months to complete,' says Phil, 'The Bygone NVQ programme is a rolling course that started in May, and all 50 BPIs will be taking part. It's simply invaluable as a sales tool.' |
