Gary Dutton Receives an MBE for Services to UK Manufacturing

Gary Dutton has achieved what he set out to at the age of 17. It wasn't the money; he was looking to prove that he was good at something. But he isn't just good - he is exceptional. In The Queen's Birthday Honours List on Saturday 14 June Gary was awarded an MBE for services to UK manufacturing.

Gary is the Chairman on the UK's number one choice for windows, doors and conservatories, Synseal.

In 1980 he saw the potential of PVC-U double gazing and founded Synseal. He started with just £200. He placed an advert in the local paper. Today Synseal employs over 700 people from its 32 acre site in Nottinghamshire. His group turns over in excess of £90 million and more windows, doors and conservatories in the UK are installed using Synseal's products.

Gary has come a long way since his early years growing up on a council estate in Nottinghamshire. But he hasn't lost his roots he still lives only ten minutes away from his childhood home.

But while some believe Gary's reached the top - retirement isn't an option. His other new title is Captain after passing his Yacht Masters last year. His two passions combine perfectly as his boat is set up so he can work wherever he is in the world.

In fact, he's just started up a new composite door business, Door-Stop headed up by his son Nick, who's worked alongside him for 18 years at Synseal.

Getting the MBE has been a humbling experience for Gary: ‘I'm very proud for myself and my family, as well as everyone involved with Synseal.

‘As a patriot, I'm delighted this country honours the ordinary man. It is quintessentially British and in some way puts the ‘great’ back in Britain.’.
