'Superagency' could mean Surge for Window Industry
'Delay, Delay, Delay' should have been Tony Blair's
mantra when he was elected. Over the past 10 years decisions on housing
have taken an age to reach. It may be about to change, according to Windowbase's,
the prospect database provider, Commercial Manager, Damian Kemp.
Although news of the appointment of the future Homes and Communities
Agency (HCA) Chief Executive, Sir Bob Kerslake, squeaked out of Whitehall
just before Christmas, he's wasted no time in setting about his job. The
HCA will control all the required assets (land, money and skills) to cut
red tape and speed up new build, social house improvement and regeneration.
The Agency isn't meant to be set up until April 2009 but Sir Bob
Kerslake is already looking at ways of bringing the time table forward.
If he manages it, it could mean a welcome boost for the window industry.
But the crucial factor will be awareness. Whatever part of the industry
businesses occupy - fabricator, installer or system company - prospects
need warming up first, the winners will be those who already have a foot
in the door. Windowbase maintains accurate and up to date databases of
over 12,000 window industry companies, 4,000 housebuilders and over 1,900
public sector specifiers, all detailed on the website, http://www.windowbase.info.
They help our customers get to the front of the queue when buyers start
sourcing services and products.
Hopefully the new 'superagency' will live up to its promises and
come good on the Government's promise of 3 million new homes by 2020 -
that's around 6 million external doors, 21 million windows, a fair few
conservatories...
