National Roofing goes Local

The burgeoning replacement flat roof market continues to provide window installers, builders and roofing contractors with an opportunity to increase their turnover without compromising their core product range, and National Roofing is now making the ideal replacement material, EPDM, available more locally.

Installers and contractors alike can now purchase the self adhesive EPDM product range from the chain of plastics and rainwater retailers, National Plastics. The portability and versatility of the self adhesive range, with its easy to manage roll sizes and convenient size containers of primer, make it a complementary product sitting alongside the vast stocks of plastics and rainwater goods that the National Plastics centres carry.

The self adhesive EPDM product is ideal for all types of flat roofing, and with its ability to cover over most existing surfaces without the need for removing the old covering it is also a cost effective product in terms of labour and waste. National Roofing's general manager, Chris Reeks, explains the process involved with the application: 'Essentially there are only two main items required, the self adhesive EPDM and the primer, which can be purchased off the shelf from branches of National Plastics across the UK. The primer is spread across the prepared surface, and once it is ‘touch dry’ then the self adhesive EPDM is rolled out onto it. Laps are joined with a heat gun resulting in a watertight finish and an aesthetically appealing roof.'

The ability to collect from the National Plastics branches alleviates the problems of carrying stocks, and as well as the main components they will also have ancillary items available to complete the installation. ‘Hand tools such as rollers and heat guns will be on sale’, continues Chris, ‘and to overcome potentially difficult areas such as corners there is a range of moulded EPDM internal and external corners in stock to assist the installer’.

Self adhesive EPDM has been successfully used across Europe for decades, and more recently in the UK for large commercial buildings and projects as well as domestic dwellings.
The applications are numerous; with its 2.5mm reinforced thickness and sporting a textured anti-slip surface it can be used to cover pitched roofs, valleys, box gutters, walkways and balustrades and many more areas besides. National Roofing also supplies one piece EPDM sheets in a range of cut to size dimensions direct from the main warehouse. These can be ordered through the National Plastics depots or as with all the EPDM products direct from National Roofing for a next day delivery.

‘2008 is set to be a difficult year for the fenestration, construction and allied industries’, adds Chris, ‘and being able to offer home improvement products such as replacement flat roofing as an additional benefit for the householder will provide the competitive edge to remain successful and profitable.’
