GAP
Invests £300,000 to Improve Service to Customers
Production
of door panels at GAP increased 19% between 2006 and 2007. To meet growing
demand the home improvement stockist and door panel manufacturer has now
invested £300,000 in its manufacturing facilities to improve the
service and quality of product the company offers its customers.
The money has been spent on a new state of the art vacuum press, which
moulds skins to the panel whilst also activating the pressure sensitive
silicone tape around the aperture of the glass creating a perfect seal.
A new hot melt gluing system has also been purchased, which the company
says provides a far superior finish to traditional polyurethane glue which
often resulted in uneven surfaces. Wastage of glue is also drastically
reduced from 47% to 2% helping GAP to reduce its impact on the environment.
The new machinery means we can offer customers a better quality
panel door, says Production Manager John Harrop. The vacuum
press means we can put equal pressure on the panel so there is less damage,
and the glue is applied evenly for a smoother finish. Demand for our panels
has grown and we expect this to continue. Investing in production means
we can keep ahead of our customers' needs whilst increasing our capacity
to 6,000 panels per week.
