Contaminated
Land - New Service Launched
As
more Brownfield sites in the UK are earmarked for development, the need
for increased technical and operational expertise for dealing with potentially
contaminated land has risen sharply.
Wastefile UK, the waste management solutions provider has introduced what
it says is a turnkey approach to contaminated land identification and
remediation-with a 24-hour response and rapid turnaround service for sampling.
At the hub of the service is cost-effective and efficient testing to BS
EN 12457/3 by the company-which is UKAS accredited-and on-site testing
which means the EA guidelines.
Wastefile UK says it has a team of experienced in-house specialists on
call to deal with technical queries and all contaminated soils undergo
expert analysis that ensure the correct categorisation and recommendation
for treatment or disposal.
'Weve also forged strong partnership links with landfill sites and
technology providers throughout the UK, securing exclusive disposal or
treatment options to complement our experienced earthworks contractors
whilst providing a fully documented audit trail for waste removal.' Said
Simon Raven, Operations Director of the newly created land remediation
division.
The company says the service will ensure reduced removal costs and offers
on-going consultation and advice.
The governments Environment Agency has identified thousands of Brownfield
sites across the UK, which have been contaminated by the legacy of previous
industrial uses and may present significant risks to human health and
to the wider environment.
Recent Government objectives have initiated a move towards redevelopment
of Brownfield land in favour of Greenfield sites (e.g. the government
target of 60% of new housing being developed on Brownfield sites) to relieve
the pressure on the countryside and green belt areas. Previously, the
potential liabilities associated with Brownfield development have resulted
in an attitude of wariness. However, the Government says with careful
consideration, and the right advice, it is possible to turn liabilities
into an asset.
