International Health and Safety Recognition for Windowstyle UK

For the second consecutive year and the seventh time in eight years, employees from a Barnsley-based window manufacturing firm joined top names in the health and safety industry to receive a coveted award and received praise from Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Following tough independent adjudication, Windowstyle UK Ltd received the International Safety Award from the leading training and advisory body, the British Safety Council. Once again, Windowstyle proved they had excellent safety policies, plans and an on-going commitment to health and safety at the highest level.

Over 1,000 movers and shakers from a diverse range of sectors celebrated their achievements at a ceremony and banquet at London's prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Mark Scaife, Managing Director of Windowstyle added: ‘To achieve this award again for the 7th time in 8 years and to be recognised for our achievement by the Prime Minister is wonderful recognition for the great effort that has been put into our Safety program at Wombwell by all our employees.

Health and Safety continues to be our number priority in 2008 as we continue to protect our biggest asset - our people.’

Prime Minister Gordon Brown commented: ‘I am delighted to send my congratulations to all of those organisations being presented with an award by the British Safety Council. These awards recognise the crucial success that these organisations and their employees have achieved in their pursuit of excellence in the management of health, safety and environmental matters at an international level.’

He added: ‘With over 36 million working days currently lost each year through work-related ill-health and injury, these awards are an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the benefits effective health, safety and environmental management bring to business, employees, the environment and the economy as a whole.’

Mr Brian Nimick, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, says: ‘For more than 50 years, we have led the way in promoting health, safety and environmental best practice in society. In the 21st century, many organisations worldwide are now making health and safety a top priority. Through achieving an International Safety Award, Windowstyle UK Ltd is helping to make our vision of a safe working environment a reality.’

Guests at the banquet, which included a number of international winners, were treated to fabulous cabaret featuring the best of the best acts from the last 50 years including Paul Zerdin, Moulin Rouge dancers and an amazing display of indoor fireworks and lasers as part of an outstanding night of music and entertainment.
