Dremel
Announces Radio Controlled Race Team Sponsorship
Dremel
has selected a team of four radio controlled car racers to compete in
its colours at the 2008 European Radio Controlled Race Car Championships,
alongside eight national racing meets in the UK, to bring an extra dimension
to its 2008 motor racing programme.
Just
like the F1 Team* which Dremel sponsors all over the world, the radio
controlled race team comprises experienced drivers : Mark Christopher,
Lee Chapman, Lee Stokes, Richard Boult - and their pit man, Martyn Chapman.
Competing for the first time at the European Championships, which takes
place in Holland at Heemstede, their chance for European glory will be
taken when the first race goes under starters orders on the 30th June.
The cars selected to race by the team are the Serpent 835 which are 235mm
wide with four wheel drive, two speed gear box with a .15 cubic inch 2,5cc
engine which will rev to just under 40,000rpm and produce nearly 1.8 horse
power, running on 16% nitro race fuel. The cars can accelerate from 0
to 60mph in just over two seconds and reach a top speed of 40 to 50mph.
As they are 10th scale, that equates to a staggering 400 to 500mph. Built
using materials such as carbon fibre and aerospace alloys with fully adjustable
suspension geometry, these are true miniature racing cars. Manufactured
in Holland, further information can be found at http://www.serpent.com.
Mark Christopher and Lee Chapman founded the team in the UK and it continues
to be UK based racing in the British Radio Car Association nationals in
the Scale IC class www.brca.org on purpose built tracks across the country.
The series consists of eight nationals with six out of eight to count.
Results for the team in 2008 so far, as well as future track locations
can be found on the BRCA website under 'sections'/'10th ic'.
A live web cam, which remains on 24 hours a day throughout the European
Radio Controlled Race Car Championships can be found at http://www.streampartner.nl/live/mach.html
where enthusiasts across Europe will be able to watch the meeting live
as it happens.
As a team, Mark, Lee, Richard, Lee and Martyn were all friends. Their
love of the sport has been enhanced by their use of Dremel tools which
they use on their cars before and during race meetings. Generously, they
allow other competitors to use them free of charge to promote just how
good the Dremel brand truly is.
