Invests in New Lamination Equipment
With the installation of its own state-of-the-art laminating
equipment, artistic glass expert, Daedalian, is now able to offer clients
a range of proprietary effects using a variety of inserts.
Inserts can be flowers, leaves, crumpled fabric, metal mesh, or even coloured
plastic film (which can be printed with a variety of different colours).
In some cases, like flowers or crumpled material, as the air is removed,
the bonding resin flows into crevices and grooves and around the insert,
completing the sealing process.
In a recent contract at Bovey Castle in Devon, Daedalian used a very white,
low iron glass with printed orange film inserts. In this instance, it
is an orange that fades from dark to light, adding dramatically to the
slightly skeletal appearance of the tree designs that have been printed
onto the film.
The two laminated panels reach from floor to ceiling, making an eye-catching
partial room divider in the Castle Bistro. Meanwhile, similar effect can
be created for wall-mounted panels in corridors and public spaces.
With lamination, the potential now exists for Daedalian to introduce design
and colour on an unprecedented scale in office developments, hotels or
public buildings. It is almost unlimited, with the colour film, metal
mesh, fabric, prints or floral inserts creating dramatic effects that
stand on their own, or benefit from lighting design that enhances the
dramatic effect even more.
Another recent project at Great Missenden Church in Buckinghamshire, called
for a combination of sandblasting and lamination of toughened glass to
kiln formed glass.
Taking the concept in another direction, and using laminated toughened
safety glass, stairway balustrades take on a whole new look using inserts
that can create a theme from one floor to the next, establish a corporate
identity, or simply add a design flow to the direction of the stairway.
