H&B Design Consultants Romps Home at Fontwell

The outline of the project at Fontwell Racecourse, Fontwell, West Sussex included several extensions to the existing Owners and Jockeys Bar at the racecourse, with one of them being a glazed conservatory enclosure. Some of the existing boundary walls were to be rebuilt to form part of the new dwarf walls.

H&B Design Consultants initially picked up the project and was asked to design, detail and cost up the glazed conservatory part of the scheme. ‘We were contacted very late into the project and it was crucial that the enclosure had to be completed for Ladies Day, one of the most important dates in the Fontwell calendar,’ says the company.

‘The first site survey was carried out in June this year and a design was subsequently submitted back to the Architect's and Main Contractor's for their approval. Slight alterations were requested back from the initial design which meant a second survey was required.

‘Meanwhile, builders contracted to undertake the extensions were complicating matters, as they were deviating from the Architect's details, meaning had we have fabricated to the initial site survey, the whole of the conservatory would have been wrong.’

With only 5 weeks remaining before Ladies Day, final approval was given and the portal was put into fabrication. It was important that all parties involved, Architect's, Racecourse Management, Structural Engineer's, Main Contractor, Installation Company and the Building Contractors knew exactly what was required of whom and when if this was to be installed on time.

H&B Design Consultants, with its many years of expertise in this type of project and with a portfolio of over 3500 projects, played a pivotal role as Project Managers.

Three weeks later the installation began and it only took a matter of days to complete before being handed over to the Main Contractor. Additional companies still had to add the finishing touches internally, such as plastering, flooring, lighting and heating, electrics etc...

With only one day to spare, the enclosure was completed for the 17th August. The very next day the furnished enclosure was opened by the Racecourse and it proved to be an exciting addition. The conservatory offers an ideal space for relaxation while at the same time complements and provides panoramic views of the stunning surrounding manicured gardens

We offer an outlet for these companies whereby they can pass the projects over, knowing that we have the experience, knowledge and reputation to take them on, and they receive a commission upon practical completion.
