DAVE
Defence Against Violent Entry
In
response to public concerns over the security of doors fitted with
euro-profile cylinders, independent hardware distributor Wagner has
introduced the Defence Against Violent Entry door handle range, known
by the acronym DAVE.
Wagner advises that it has been working on the DAVE concept for 18
months, but that the project was given further impetus following what
the company sees as sensationalist reports in the national press and
local television earlier this year.
These items caused a great deal of worry to some householders and
Wagners offices received dozens of calls in the weeks that followed.
DAVE incorporates a solid aluminium external back plate, providing
increased support to the profile cylinder when in place. The strength
of the aluminium, coupled with stronger fixings and bushes, also offers
great protection against forced removal of the backplate from outside.
The
traditional cylinder hole on the external backplate has been changed
to a circular one to allow the insertion of a key. This, and the steel
keyway cover provide excellent protection against pulling the cylinder
through the handle.
The handle has been rigorously trialled and Wagner has just learned
that, based on the companys trial findings, major commercial
and domestic fabricator Piper Double Glazing in Ramsgate has decided
to offer it on its complete selection of doors, including the Armourdoor
fire door range.
Finished in white, gold and silver anodised, DAVE is currently available
from Wagner in a two-screw version to suit most standard 92PZ locks,
but can be obtained in other screw patterns or backplate designs where
required.
Wagner has taken the decision to stock this pattern as it can be easily
retro-fitted on the majority of doors without the need for additional
work on site, such as routing.
