Glaze-Away - Doubling Glazing Van Productivity
Supertrucks
Ltd, the UK's largest designer and manufacturer of vehicles for the
glazing industry is continually looking for new ways to increase the
efficiency of its products. The latest productivity-boosting product
launched by the St Helens based company is the Glaze-Away trailer
which delivers significant efficiency and cost saving benefits.
The
new Supertrucks Glaze-Away trailer can fill a dual role, in that it
can be used to increase the capacity of a glazing van to carry extra
material and tools for a large job. Or, it can be used to double productivity.
In this role it allows two glazing teams to work using just one van.
Peter Wright, Supertrucks' chairman, explains, We have built
many trailers for use with glazing vans for our German customers.
Now we have refined the concept, hence the new Glaze-Away trailer,
which we believe will bring major operational and financial benefits
to glazing companies both in the UK and throughout mainland Europe.
The first Glaze-Away trailer to be supplied to a UK customer has been
ordered by Treecraft Woodwork Ltd in Dornoch. It is built upon a Böckmann,
low loading, twin axle trailer with 650mm deep alloy dropsides and
a removable tilt frame and cover to protect the load from the elements.
The Böckmann trailer is particularly suited to the Glaze-Away
application as it has a sophisticated shock absorber arrangement and
rubber suspension, which provides a good ride.
Supertrucks converts the trailer with the addition of 4.0m long, 2.4m
high, light alloy patented racks which can be specified for carrying
either sheet glass or, as in this application, patio doors and window
frames. The racks are set at a 5 degree angle and have detachable
rubber base blocks.
These blocks are multi-positional and can be placed to provide optimum
support for each individual load carried and they also allow the load
to be loaded/unloaded by fork lift.
For carrying patio doors and window frames Treecraft Woodwork's Glaze-Away
is supplied with three multi-straps to retain the patio doors or window
units. Glaze-Away trailers specified for carrying glass are equipped
with Supertrucks' System 1 or System 3 type load securing poles.
In addition to the Glaze-Away's ability to carry sheet glass or window
frames, this new trailer can also be optionally equipped with secure
storage to carry the tools and consumable items needed by a window
fitting team.
As such, with the Glaze-Away trailer, two glazing teams can use one
van. In this type of operation, the Glaze-Away trailer, complete with
the materials for the job and the fitting crew's tools can be left
at one site while the second crew and the van goes to work at another
site.
Or, the Glaze-Away trailer can be used to virtually double the load
capacity of the 3.5 tonne gvw van towing it and sent with one glazing
team to carry out major jobs, without the need to shuttle backwards
and forwards to pick up the extra materials as would occur if just
a solo van were used.
Supertrucks intends to offer a range of Glaze-Away trailers, once
glazing companies become familiar with the concept. Initially, the
first Glaze-Away trailers are able to take sheet glass or frames up
to 4.0m long and approaching 2.5m high. The initial Glaze-Away trailer
model has a payload capacity of 1,040kg when used with a typical 3.5
tonne gvw van which has a 2,000kg braked trailer train weight capacity.
The new Supertrucks Glaze-Away trailer is an inexpensive means of
boosting glazing vehicle and glazing crew(s) productivity. Supertrucks
is able to produce Glaze-Away trailers individually specified and
equipped for a wide range of applications.
