New Sliding Door System from Schüco Offers Exceptional Performance

New from building envelope specialist, Schüco International, is the Royal S 160.HI, a highly engineered aluminium lift-and-slide door system that can accommodate vents up to 3000mm x 3000mm and can enable fabricators to help architects achieve the performance standards laid down in Part L of the Building Regulations.

The Royal S 160.HI - which has been developed from Schüco's successful Royal S 120+ system - offers some new features including high-insulation glazing rebate gaskets and meeting stiles, HI isolators and DGUs up to 52mm. Together, these give the system a UW value of 1.5 W/m2K, a level of thermal performance that the company says is unmatched by any similar system in the UK.

Additionally, the Royal S 160.HI has a new PVCu sill profile that improves drainage characteristics and helps to deliver a driving rain resistance rating of 600 Pascals (against an industry norm of 300-450 Pascals) making the system suitable for even the most exposed locations.

Despite these advances, installation remains simple thanks to standard Royal S profiles. The system, which has an outer frame construction with a depth of 160mm and a vent depth of 70mm, can ordinarily support a vent weight of 300kg, although as part of a special solution this can be increased to as much as 400kg.

An integral anti-slam safety brake guards against accidents, while optional slip isolators that allow for different rates of thermal expansion and contraction internally and externally, prevent the doors from binding in very hot weather. There is a wide choice of colour options and different colours can be specified for internal and external faces.

Running on double stainless steel tracks, the Royal S 160.HI is easy and quiet to open or close. The lift-and-slide operation prevents undue wear on the tracks and allows the vent to be lowered into any number of open positions. A flush threshold detail gives easy access for wheelchair users. For additional ease of use, a semi- or fully automatic e-slide option, which incorporates anti-finger-trap protection software, may be fitted to operate the door electronically.
