Solelec Underfloor Heating Approved by Flooring Manufacturer
Rehau's
Solelec electric underfloor heating option has been approved for use
in conservatories in conjunction with PERGO's high quality laminate
flooring system.
This is a step forward for fabricators and installers as they can now
add Solelec combined with Pergo laminate flooring to their conservatory
offering and create a sales and profit opportunity.
Malc Taylor, the marketing manager at Rehau responsible for Solelec,
says: ‘Since the launch of Solelec in 2005, it has become clear
to us that there is confusion in the market as to whether electric underfloor
heating mats can operate successfully with laminate flooring and if
so, how the two should be installed together.

have responded to this by joining forces with one of the biggest and
most respected names in the laminated flooring industry and have carried
out comprehensive testing which proves that both our 160W/m2 and 120W/m2
heating mats are compatible with Pergo's laminate flooring range.’
Rehau tested its fast performance 160W/m2 mats with two of the most
popular products in the Pergo range - Natural Touch pine plank and Modern
Tile glaze graphite. Over a 100-day period, it duplicated the extremes
of everyday use to test whether the laminate would remain flat and stay
within its normal expansion and contraction rates. In 60 cycles heating
the floor from 15º C to 29º C, it performed entirely as expected with
no gaps developing and no warping taking place.
In the tests, the laminated flooring was laid on a vapour check membrane
and a 10mm self levelling compound with the Solelec mats installed either
on a 10mm tile backer or straight onto existing concrete. Rehau is endorsing
both installation methods.
Malc Taylor adds: ‘We recognise that conservatory heating and flooring
represent two key profit opportunities for installers. However, they
can also be a potential headache if they result in installation problems
and costly call backs. Our tie up with Pergo eliminates this risk and
presents installers with a proven solution from two companies known
