Flexible Curtain Walling Solution from Profile 22

Profile 22, the UK systems companies, has launched a new low-rise curtain wall system offering architects and specifiers greater choice and flexibility when creating large fenestration screens within the refurbishment, commercial and newbuild sectors.

Fully available now, Profile 22's specialist product is a purpose-designed, cost-effective and flexible solution for buildings up to four storeys high, including schools, office blocks, hospitals, factories, shop fronts and vertically-glazed stairwells.

With outstanding weather performance and thermal efficiency, the system surpasses the British Standard BS 6375 part 1 classification of weathertightness following extensive testing. Its square cut design uses fewer components, making it easy to manufacture and assemble with the main profiles sent to site in 'stick form'. With omni-directional adjustment and supplied fully prepped, the system requires only minimum drilling for fast and accurate installation.

Unlike curtain walling systems on the market that are pre-finished in powder-coated paint leaving them vulnerable to storage and site damage, the Profile 22 system has a durable aluminium mill finish that can be capped off internally and externally using PVCu cladding, thus cloaking any site scratches that may occur during the build. The PVCu cladding can be painted in any RAL colour if desired, creating an overall attractive contemporary façade.

Design helps to maximise the system's ability to suit individual specification requirements through the use of heavy and medium duty mullions. Increased mullion lengths and spacing allow for cost-effective planning and costing from the outset.

Profile 22 also offers full training and technical back up, including a dedicated design service, from its specialist specification team on all aspects of the curtain walling system. From initial site visits and project meetings, to structural calculations and wind loadings, the expertise is there to help with queries.

Speaking after a seminar to launch and demonstrate the product to customers, Andrew Reid, Profile 22's National Commercial Sales Manager, said he expected a large demand for the curtain walling system in the light of the recent Government announcements of a massive boost in capital investment for schools upkeep and improvement - worth £2.2 billion for the first wave of approximately 180 schools set to benefit in 2005-06.

Announced in February 2004, the Building Schools for the Future programme is a new approach to capital investment for transforming secondary schools. It aims to replace or renew all secondary schools over the next 10 to 15 years, subject to future spending decisions.

‘As an enhancement to the highly-specified Profile 22 system, this is a product that we believe meets specifiers' requirements for a quality, yet value-for-money solution in both newbuild and refurbishment applications. We are also expecting it to be popular with fabricators seeking new opportunities in the commercial and industrial sectors,’ said Andrew.
