Revolutionary
New System for Door Security is as Simple as Lifting A Handle
British
company 'Lift & Lock' has launched a range of products that are
as easy to fit as a conventional door handle, but provide instant
security.
The full range of products, which now includes models for both new
fitting or retrofitting to all household doors, entrance doors [front,
back, conservatory, patio] and internal doors [bedroom, bathroom,
lounge etc] - is launched this month.
After
an initial soft launch into the retail sector with Yale, the company's
new range enhances the original features and brings new benefits to
all residents. The product looks like a conventional handle, and is
as easy to use, but conceals a patented design that immobilises the
outside handle when the inside handle is lifted, effectively 'locking'
the door.
No keys are involved. The handle stays in the raised position, showing
the occupant that the door is 'locked'. Lift & Lock is easy to
use, easy to secure and easy to release, meeting both Police and Fire
authority requirements.
The handle range can be applied to any door where conventional handles
are used.
Safety First
No one likes a fortress mentality, where doors need to be locked and
bolted, especially when you are at home. The beauty of the range is
that, because it is so easy to use, it will be used. There are no
keys to find. No awkward bolts to fasten. It takes a second to lock
and the same to release. People will find that it becomes second nature
to lift up the handle behind them as they enter their home. One of
the most common crimes is what the police refer to as 'distraction
burglaries', where the homeowner is kept talking at the front door,
whilst the accomplice goes around to the unlocked back of the house
and enters whilst the owner is distracted. With Lift & Lock, it
becomes second nature to secure every door each time it is used, eliminating
this risk. If the doorbell rings, a quick glance at any other external
doors gives instant reassurance that they are secure. And because
you can also lock your internal doors as you retire to
bed at night, you can sleep secure knowing that if a burglar breaks-in
in through a window, they are restricted from roaming about the house.
Crime figures show that although incidents of burglary are slowly
falling, there are still almost 1,000,000 burglaries each year, with
just 75% reported. Over 175,000 are via unlocked doors and windows,
even when the home is occupied -the Lift & Lock range is a simple
means of combating these - after all, what could be easier than simply
lifting a handle as you close the door behind you?
This
new range of products has been developed with safety and security
as the focus alongside the soon-to-be-harmonised more stringent European
thief resistant codes. This new range includes Armoured
and Anti Drill variants, which will stop access through
cylinder snap and cylinder pull.
Architects and builders will also appreciate the wide range of finishes
as well as the 'fully suited' approach, with the same design of lever
and back plate, which can be applied to all door functions throughout
a home internal and external both locking and non-locking.
Some of the products are designed for installation by door manufacturers,
builders or conservatory installers; others provide 'universal' flexibility
for retrofitting onto virtually any type of door - wood, steel, aluminium,
PVCu and composite.
It is expected that there will be particular interest from the social
housing sector, both local authorities and housing associations, since
the Lift & Lock range meets their philosophy of duty of care.
The adjustable models for retrofitting benefit from Lift & Lock's
patented sliding keyway, which allows the handles to be fitted to
locks with centres from 68 to 92mm. Combined with the company's standard
patented security features, this model is sure to add enhanced security
to many homes.
There is even a special version for bathroom or toilet doors that
allows the door to be opened instantly from the outside in the event
of an emergency, no chasing around to find screwdrivers or coins or......and
no unnecessary call-outs of the fire services - It even holds back
the latch whilst the emergency is managed, so the door cannot slam
close behind you.
For the elderly or arthritic, versions with reduced trigger tension
and extended handle lengths are available.
Lift and Lock is also establishing a Certified Installer
programme to help homeowners locate a professional fitter.
