Milestone for Glass Transport Safety with Langendorf Roll Stability

Floatliner pioneer Langendorf's 'Innenladers' are the first European vehicles equipped with Roll Stability Support from Wabco. This expansion of the Trailer-EBS D generation decisively improves the safety of semitrailers and trailers.

Langendorf is the first European vehicle manufacturer, who got this series release of RSS for Glass Innenladers.

Extensive calculations were made from the Langendorf designers before the production was started. Research and development were followed by intensive driving tests on the Wabco test track in Jeversen/Germany with a practical loaded semitrailer loaded with about 25 to glass plates of 3,21 x 6,0 meters.

These driving tests should support and cover the Langendorf calculations regarding lateral acceleration in this vehicle. Loaded Floatglass Innenladers were never brought to driving-technical limits before. Moreover the driving behaviour of Glass Innenladers is not comparable with standard trailers. Further pratical knowledge of the use of RSS to Glass Innenladers was missing. But finally the calculations of the Langendorf and Wabco engineers were confirmed on the track.

Tight bends and abrupt obstacle-avoidance manoeuvres

The practice on the track confirmed the calculations: in critical situations (e.g. abrupt obstacle-avoidance manoeuvres). The lateral acceleration becomes to a disaster for the semitrailer by underestimate the speed - this can be seen very often after a long drive on highways. Also vehicles can be brought to driving dynamical limits because of sudden obstacle-avoidance manoeuvres caused by other road users. The semitrailer has the tendency to roll-over in these situations, and often the driver has no chance to intervene in these situations. The driver only feels the roll-over tendency of the tractor. But this happens at that time when the roll-over tendency of the semitrailer has progressed more than the tractor, therefor it is often too late for countermeasures (e.g. braking). Here RSS is effectively
compensating such extreme driving situations, the expansion of the known Trailer-EBS D generation.

Function
The highly sensitive sensor technique and complex electronics RSS evaluates information like load, wheel speed and data of the integrated lateral acceleration sensor. It allows to identify a roll-over tendency and intervenes by targeted braking. With these targeted braking the speed of road train is reduced and the danger of rolling over is reduced. During the intervention of the RSS the driving stability is guaranteed by the permanently working automatic load depending brake and ABS system. RSS is approved by the German RW-T‹V.
Extensive film clips are documenting the extended test program. Film clips from the inside made during the drive substantiate impressive the excellent load security device. The four big plates fix safe the load also in dynamic extreme situations of more following sudden obstacle-avoidance manoeuvres.
