Exatec® 900vt - First Generation Polycarbonate Car Roof

Inalfa Roof Systems presented the latest Exatec product, Exatec® 900vt, at The International Auto show (IAA) in Frankfurt / Main, from September 15 to 25. It signals the beginning of a new generation of polycarbonate automotive roof systems.

Exatec® 900vt allows engineers to economically incorporate design and styling innovations into advanced roof designs. This product enables the simultaneous application of different coating systems on the A- and B-sides of polycarbonate roof panels while retaining the proven weatherability of Exatec® 900.

'In the construction of roof systems we always had to take into account the flow properties of wet coat systems on the interior side. Exatec® 900vt now offers increased freedom of design with lower manufacturing cost', explains Inalfa Roof Systems' Business Director Eddy van der Vorst.

Clemens Kaiser, CEO of Exatec, adds: 'Exatec 900vt eliminates the need for wet coating the interior side of the panels. By coating with plasma, the required abrasion resistance is achieved. Exatec® 900vt also improves optical appearance by eliminating 'picture frames'.. Less is more!'

cleverGlass®, the Czech based Exatec® 900vt manufacturer owned by Peguform Bohemia sees, significant advantages resulting from this new development. For Pavel Neuman, CEO of Peguform Bohemia, the new process is a significant step forward in that it eliminates the need to wet coat interior sides of complex parts: 'This results in economic advantages and also substantially simplifies the production process.'

An Exatec® 900vt sun roof incorporated into an existing roof system was displayed at the IAA-booth of Inalfa Roof Systems. 'One of Polycarbonate's advantages is that its weight is half that of glass. It's an excellent extension of our product portfolio that we can offer the automotive manufacturers', comments van der Vorst. 'This cost effective, newly developed Exatec product will play a prominent role in future developments.'
